Cricket
My name is Ross Watson. I currently live in London Colney which is located in the county of Hertfordshire. One of my main interest and my greatest hobby is sport, mainly cricket.
So what is cricket? Cricket is a sport played between two teams of eleven. These two teams have turns in batting and fielding, which are known as innings. The batting team has two players on the field.
These batsmen hit the ball to obtain runs, which in a way are the same as points. The other team - the fielding team - have eleven players located on the field at one time. This team tries to stop the batting team from getting runs. An innings will usually last for twenty, fifty or unlimited overs. The idea of the game is to get more runs than your opponent, whilst trying to stop them from getting runs.
Cricket is a sport played all over the world with many international teams. There are many tournaments for teams to play in, as well as the World Cup. There are also leagues within countries, in which lower level cricket teams can play. Cricket is one of the main sports in the world and that why I have such an interest into it. Anyone is able to play cricket and the sport therefore that brings a large amount of different races of people together, making bonds between the people of two countries stronger.

I have been playing cricket since I was six years old. I started by playing for my primary school against other schools in the area. As I got older I started playing more and more until I joined St Albans cricket team. I trained with them for a year, but then I left the team as I had only played one match in that year. After a couple of years of playing for my secondary school in matches against other schools, I joined my dad’s social team. I have been playing with Saint John Fishers for around three years now and I have played countless matches for them.
I have a great interest in this sport because it is a team sport which requires good communication between the players. This communication creates friendships between the players which can go beyond the cricket field. Another reason I enjoy playing this sport is because it challenges my abilities in stamina and endurance: as a match can last anything up to five days. I also feel that this sport requires a lot of skills as you are playing at very high speeds. For example, when batting you have to hit the ball which can be travelling at over one hundred miles an hour – across the space of eight metres. This requires good reactions and timing skills.
